Freedive & Sail
Lofoten

Explore the journey

Explore Lofoten Beneath the Surface

Join us on an unforgettable sailing and freediving expedition through the spectacular
Lofoten archipelago. We explore some of Norway’s most iconic coastal landscapes with
a sailing boat as our base – from dramatic mountains and traditional fishing villages
to hidden anchorages, remote islands and crystal-clear waters.

This is not a typical diving trip. It is an immersive experience combining sailing,
freediving, exploration, breathwork, nature and life at sea. Every day offers new
opportunities to discover underwater landscapes, develop your freediving skills,
visit remote locations accessible only by boat and experience the freedom of slow
travel through Lofoten’s unique natural surroundings.

Your freediving instructor

Meet Martin Helseth

Martin Helseth is a professional freediver, instructor, and former Olympic rower who
represented Norway at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

His connection to the ocean goes beyond sport. Martin is part of Nordic Endeavour,
an expedition rowing 3,000 km through the Norwegian fjords to raise awareness for
ocean conservation and support maritime volunteer charities.

He is also the founder of Rewild Norway, an initiative focused on ocean cleanups and
protecting Norway’s coastal environment.

Today, Martin combines his experience as an elite athlete, freediver, and ocean
advocate to create experiences that connect people with the sea while encouraging a
deeper respect for the environment.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous freediving experience?

No. The expedition is designed for adventure travellers with mixed experience levels. Whether you are new to freediving or already have experience, the program is adapted to your level.

The expedition includes a CMAS Freediving T1 course, or CMAS Freediving T2 course for participants who already hold T1 certification, allowing you to develop your skills with professional guidance.

You should, however, be comfortable in the water and have a willingness to learn and challenge yourself.

Do I need to be a sailor?

No previous sailing experience is required. You will be part of life onboard Meridian, but the sailing is handled by our experienced skipper.

You will have the opportunity to learn about sailing, help with life onboard, and experience what it is like to travel by sea.

How many people can join?

Between 2 and 6 guests. Small groups keep the experience personal and let us adapt the pace to you.

Where do we start and finish?

The expedition starts and finishes in Svolvær, Lofoten, Norway.

From here, we set sail into the archipelago and explore Lofoten from the ocean — reaching places that are difficult or impossible to access by land.

What should I bring?

Guests should bring personal clothing suitable for changing Arctic weather conditions, including:

  • Warm layers
  • Waterproof outer clothing
  • Hat and gloves
  • Swimwear
  • Personal toiletries
  • Camera (optional)
  • Personal medication if required

A complete packing list will be provided before departure.

How cold is the water, and what equipment do I need?

Lofoten is located in the Arctic, and the ocean temperatures are cold throughout the year. We use appropriate equipment, including 7mm wetsuits, to ensure a safe and comfortable freediving experience.

Freediving equipment is available if needed. Guests bringing their own equipment can receive a price adjustment.

A detailed packing list will be provided before departure.

What happens if the weather changes?

The sea and weather are part of the adventure. Our route and daily plans are flexible and adapted to the conditions.

The skipper and crew will always prioritise safety while making the most of the opportunities the Arctic environment gives us.
